Frozen Paint/Ivory exploision

On a cold afternoon not too long ago we decided we needed a little bit more excitement than a regular play day.  I decided to do a frozen paint activity that I saw online somewhere.  Isaac and I started the activity while Addy was sleeping and then she joined in on the fun.  I will let the pictures tell the story of the afternoon.
freeze the paint in ice cube trays

He decided to paint his hand

then make hand prints

making a masterpiece

he also made a telescope to see things better with

Addy getting in on the action
When it was time to clean up, I decided to do it a little bit fun and show the kids what happens when you microwave ivory soap.  We needed soap anyways to clean up our mess so why not add a little bit of science and fun to it.

When you microwave Ivory soap it explodes

Turns into a very dry paper

The kids both wanted to add water to their buckets

so smart, because then I didn't have to scrub hands clean.  They both then washed many many cars in the buckets.  Genius again, since those cars are full of germs.

a couple of the masterpieces

Isaac made this portrait of himself and made the letter I all by himself.  he called it "Isaac the monster"

All in all it was a GREAT time for the kids to do some art work....learn a little about science while cleaning up.  They enjoyed playing in the soapy water just as long as they liked painting.  Clean up was a breeze since they cleaned themselves while playing :)
