Isaac visits the Dr's House

Isaac has been suffering with flu like symptoms for almost a week.  After a trip to our regular dr. earlier in the week and phone call to the Gastro Specialists it was confirmed he should go to the ER, that this might not be the flu.  The poor guy has been so sick, and hasn't been able to keep anything in his system.  At the ER he had a stomach x-ray and IV started for fluids.  They feared dehydration, and was the reason he was admitted.  As you can imagine he was very sad, crying to go home and crying for the IV to come out.  Visits from his Nana, Grandma and Grandpa helped a little but time sure did move slow in there.  He didn't want to watch his shows or play with his toys much.  He just wanted to go home to baby.  Isaac was not allowed to leave his room, because they did not know what he had (and we still don't know).  This is really hard on him, he wanted to see what was outside that door so badly.  He called the hospital the Dr's house, and as you can imagine they ALL LOVED seeing him.  One of the residents who cared for him the most told him he was her very favorite patient.  He was soooooooo incredibly brave the entire time with very few tears at all.  I could not have been more proud of him.  I think I shed more tears than he did.  He wowed all the nurses and Dr's with his knowledge of trains, trucks and cars and informed them all about the Thomas and the island of sodor as well as the movies Cars 1 and Cars 2.  I was very impressed with the staff at this hospital (not impressed with the facility itself, a little run down).  Not a single Dr. looked at me and laughed for asking too many questions, they all took time to talk to Isaac and not just to me.  They asked Isaac questions about things not related to his tummy, and were engaged when Isaac would talk to them about his trains, cars and trucks.  Very nice to see, has been awhile since I have seen such nice Dr's in a hospital setting.

He was able to come home yesterday late afternoon, but we need to continue to push the fluids.  He lite up when he was told he could go home.  He started running around looking for his coat and shoes.  He skipped down the hallway and waved good-bye to all the nurses.  All the nurses said they were sad to see him go since he was such a great patient.  Isaac did not feel the same way, he went running and did not look back!!  Now we are home and waiting to take stool back to the hospital to have it tested for various bacterias to see if he is indeed fighting something other than the flu.  Hopefully, this weekend we can get those samples there but I guess that is up to Isaac.  He is still not eating a lot...The Dr's said this is to be expected after everything he has gone through. When he wants to eat it is mostly crackers or fruit snacks.  He gets whatever he wants, whenever he wants for a while.  He lost some weight from all of this of course and he needs some calories so for now whatever he wants.  This will be a bad habit to break when he is better but oh well, just another bridge to cross when we get there.

He was so excited to get home and of course Addy missed him sooooooooo much.  They both were laughing  and fighting with each other all evening.  Isaac got some Chuggington train track as a present for being such a brave boy.  He has had some trains for a while but no where to drive them around. He was in heaven and Addy was in heaven to have someone back to crawl on and pull hair and be chased by.

I will keep you all posted as more develops.  For now we are asking for prayers on the test results we have ahead of us as well as an appetite for Isaac to come back.  Thank you all for the prayers, texts, phone calls, etc.
Love, all of us

Addy took her first steps

Addy took her first steps tonight (Feb. 22, 2012) to her Daddy without holding onto anything!  So proud of this little girl, and scared all at the same time.

Forts: New and Old

Lately, both kids have been enjoying fort building and having a night snack in the fort.  As you can see the fort is not elaborate but that is because every time we try to make it bigger and more fun it turns into a crashing of the fort party instead.  Brings back fond memories when Isaac was just a little baby and he slept on the floor on his play mat with blankets and we called it is fort.  He loved it there and the only place he used to sleep.  Oh how times have changed so quickly.
Em and Isaac in their fort back in the day

Isaac was about 1 1/2 months here.  This is where he loved to sleep as a baby.

Nana joined baby Isaac in his fort

Present day forts.  They each have a bowl of snacks.

So excited!

I have no idea what is going on!

Where is Isaac and Addy???

Shelf building

Work on the basement continues this winter with the building of shelves for the storage rooms in the back of the basement.  Seth did the pantry shelves first and I was able to move all of the canned goods over there.  I love it! Now he is working on shelving for the main room.  Isaac of course is a great helper and thinks he has found a new place to drive cars and trucks.   Just wait until those shelves are full of Christmas decorations and baby memories, toys, and small appliances.  This will be a very sad day for Isaac!!
shelves in progress.  you can see a little of the pantry in the back.

Daddy lifted him up on the top shelf.  He thought he was pretty cool!

Finished shelves on that wall...more to go

Addy and her WILD hair

Addy's hair is out of control!!!  I refuse to cut it so I am trying to use pins, ribbons and binders to try and control it.  Every morning it is always a new picture to add to the collection.  Here is a sampling.  Enjoy!!
Not happy about taking her picture

The pin didn't even help

What can I say, this is how she woke up!!

Night Trains!!

All Aboard!!!

Oh my goodness, Seth and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.  At Badana Square there is a museum of electric trains and during the winter months they have something called night trains.  Where many of the trains that run along the tracks on lite up with Christmas lights, snowmen, etc.  We have been wanting to take Isaac for a while but because it doesn't start until 6 pm and he is normally reading stories at 6:15 pm we have never gone.  Well...This past Saturday he took a two hour nap and so we decided it was the perfect night to go.
We were the first ones in the door and there were about 12 other people there when we got there.  By the time we left there were hundreds of people, hundreds of kids EVERYWHERE!  Our kids had a BLAST to say the very least.  We expected some whining from Isaac when we said it was time to go hours later.  But he left graciously for taking him...Addy on the other hand threw one of her enormous fits...kicking and screaming and cried 3/4 of the way home.  I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.  We will be going back!!
So cool.  Isaac got to hit buttons that controlled the night trains!

They were both in awe!

Addy started her night out in the stroller having a snack

She quickly needed out of the stroller and in on the action at the kids train tables.  This pretty much sums up her game face for the night.  She stood her own and wouldn't let the boys not let her play.

This was AWESOME!!  he got to drive Thomas, Percy, James and dirty dissel

pretty excited

Cheering Isaac on...she kept making grunts and noises.  I think she proud of him!!

Isaac my little kitchen helper

Isaac LOVES to help me in the kitchen.  I hear, "wait mommy, I will get my chair" every time I reach for a bowl or pull out a spoon.  I love his help, because he is soooooo excited to do it.  There are of course pros and cons to this.  On the con list:  There is a bigger mess, things don't always turn out quite so good (Isaac still needs a little work on measuring) and of course Addy.  Addy does not like it when Isaac gets to stand on a chair and one she can't reach him and two she doesn't get too.  We often try to start our kitchen projects towards the middle of Addy's nap, but Addy doesn't "nap" very well or long so often this is a struggle for all of us.  On the pro list: Isaac has been trying new foods since he is the one making them, he LOVES doing it, and he is learning some measuring skills along the way.  The biggest pro is the eating new foods.  Isaac has not eaten a piece of bread, or biscuit up until about two weeks ago when he made them himself.  Now....if I could only get Isaac to eat sandwiches or peanut butter and jelly I would be one happy Mommy.  Not sure what it is, but he can not stand the smell or taste of peanut butter or sandwich bread.  I must also add that to get him to eat french toast I called it special apple cake (we had sauted apples as a topping) and to get him to eat biscuits I called them cookies.  Maybe I shouldn't have admitted to lying but I really wanted him to try something new and he LIKED and ATE them both.  Thank you Isaac for being Mommy's special kitchen helper!!!
rolling out the sweet potato biscuits.  This is why he thought they were cookies.  This is how we make cut out sugar cookies.  I just didn't change what he already thought we were making!!

Excellent roller

Trying the biscuits ( I mean cookies)
This is how talented and advanced my helper is.  He can spoon batter at the same time as watching Cars 2.

This was our banana chocolate chip cake!

Addy and her tricks

Recently Addy has become much more mobile moving around the rooms hanging onto couches, chairs, people whatever she can to get what she wants.  She crawls most of the time, since that is her fastest source of getting to her destination but it won't be long until she will be walking all on her own without the couches or people to hang onto.  She is starting to recognize familiar phrases and entertain us with "sooooo Big" and "pattycake" when she is in the mood.  The rest of the time during the day is spent going after her brother's cars and trains and well lets be frank just trying to get Isaac in general.  She is becoming quite the little roamer and now hates to be confined to one spot just as much as Isaac did.  Two of the same, is what I call them.  But I wouldn't trade them for any other two!!
